IVS at 38th IVU World Vegetarian Congress, Germany, August 2008

IVU logoThe Indian Vegan Society was present at the38th World Vegetarian Congress of the International Vegetarian Union (IVU) at Dresden, Germany from July 27 to August 3, 2008. Our President Vn.Shankar Narayan has presented a speech on "Origin and history of vegetarianism in India". Our Director Dr. Nandita Shah has been speaking on "Vegan Nutrition and Heath".

Vegan Music Festival, India, 20 September 2008

The Indian Vegan Society has organised a one day Vegan Music Festival on Saturday, 20th September, 2008 at Sai Vishram Vegetarian Non-alcoholic Beach Resort, Byndoor, Karnataka, India. The main event was a Carnatic Classical Music Concert by Vegan Mohan Santhanam and his troupe, Chennai, followed by an Indian vegan buffet dinner.

Book launch "50 awesome ways kids can help animals" by Ingrid Newkirk (PETA), Goa, India, January 2008

Book by Ingrid NewkirkIVS organised a press meeting on 10 January 2008 at Margao, Goa for the launch of a book entitled "50 awesome ways kids can help animals: Fun and Easy Ways to Be a Kind Kid " by Ingrid Newkirk, founder of PETA Worldwide. The author herself was in Goa to release the book in front of many school children and the event received a fair amount of press coverage.

The book is packed with fascinating facts about animals, fun quizzes, riddles and activities that will inspire any kid in its love for animals.

 
 
New year at Spiritual Vegan Ashram "Vana Chetana", Heddur, India, 31 Dec. 2007

Spiritual ashram Vana ChetanaA few IVS members visited Vana Chetana, a Spiritual Vegan Ashram (Art Estate) run by Mr. Nagesh. The ashram is located at Heddur, Teerthahalli Talluk, Shimoga District, Karnataka. Together with Mr. Nagesh we welcomed the new year 2008 in a vegan way. Vana Chetana is a great place to rest, to play and be adventurous as a child, to gain energy from nature , to meet rural villagers,  to have close encounters with happy cows, and to explore wonderful art.

IVS at Literary Kanada Conference, Udupi, Dec. 2007 IVS was present at the 74th All India Kannada Literary Conference at Udupi, Karnataka from 12 to 15 December 2007. Our society took part as an exhibitor to promote veganism. We distributed leaflets on veganism and provided information to a great number of interested visitors, of which several signed up as members.
